A HUMBLE BEGINNING LEADS TO A GREAT END
Bear Market
When the market turns bearish
3/31/2026
If a Bull Market is the economy's grand celebration, a Bear Market is a period of reflection, patience, and strategy. Despite its negative reputation, it is a perfectly normal phase of the economic cycle.
What exactly is a Bear Market?
The term Bear Market describes a prolonged period of falling prices in the markets. Officially, we consider ourselves in "bear territory" when the prices of stocks or cryptocurrencies drop by 20% or more from their recent highs.
Unlike a simple "correction" (which is a brief dip), a Bear Market can last for months or even years, causing widespread pessimism among investors.
Why the Bear?
The name comes from the way a bear attacks: it swipes its claws from top to bottom. This downward motion symbolizes the falling trajectory of prices and the pressure exerted on the market.
How do we recognize a downward market?
The main characteristic isn't just the numbers, but the psychology. During a Bear Market, fear dominates. Investors become extremely cautious, bad news is magnified, and the demand for buying decreases as everyone waits to see "where the bottom is."
Usually, this phase is accompanied by broader economic issues, such as rising unemployment, high inflation, or a slowdown in growth (recession).
Are there opportunities in the "fall"?
While a Bear Market can be psychologically taxing, for calm investors, it often represents a period of opportunity. The prices of quality assets drop to levels considered "discounts," allowing those with a long-term horizon to build positions that will pay off when the cycle turns bullish again.
Survival and Strategy
The best defence in such a market is composure. Experienced investors avoid impulsive "panic selling" and focus on capital preservation, waiting for the first signs of recovery.
The Bottom Line: A Bear Market is not the end of the world, but a necessary "clearing out" of the market. Just as nature needs winter for spring to arrive, the economy needs the bear to prepare for the bull’s next big leap.
